Universal Snow Cab Assembly and Installation

Install an MTD Genuine Parts Universal Snow Cab for protection from wind and blowing snow when operating a snow blower. This accessory fits most 2-stage snow blowers and stands up to winter elements.

Follow these step-by-step instructions for installing the Universal Snow Cab. Be advised that instructions may vary depending on the model purchased. Reference your owner's manual for any variations in the installation process.

Step 1: Preparation

Place the snow blower on a flat surface. Turn the engine off and let it cool. Remove parts and hardware from the snow blower cab box. Confirm that all parts are present (reference the parts list in the owner's manual).

Step 2: Assemble the A and B Bars

Slide one set of bars, A and B, together. Install a set screw, making it finger-tight. Repeat for the opposite side. Do not fully tighten screws until the frame of the snow blower cab is completely assembled.

Step 3: Connect Assemblies A and B with E

Insert Bar E into the ends of assemblies A and B, with the nut facing the inside of the frame. Secure it with a set screw, making it finger-tight.

Step 4: Connect Bars E and F

Insert pole F into the end of bar E so that the narrow end is facing up. Repeat for the opposite side.

Step 5: Connect poles G with the A and B assemblies

Insert pole G into the end of the A and B assemblies with the narrow end facing up. Repeat for the opposite side. You should now have the outline of the front and back of the snow cab frame. Secure the poles with set-screws, making them finger-tight.

Step 6: Connect the D and C rods

Locate the curved rods D, C, and D and lay them on a flat surface. Connect a D rod to each end of the C rod and secure them with set-screws. Be sure to match up the arrow points. Tighten the set-screws with the wrench included in the snow blower cab kit.

Step 7: Install the curved rod assembly

Install the curved rod assembly into the top of the G poles.

Step 8: Feed H rods through sleeves

For the next steps, be sure to wear safety glasses. Locate all the flexible rods - there should be four H rods and one I rod. Open the fabric cab cover to locate the inside sleeves. Feed both H rods through the sleeves, and then insert the steel ends of the H rods into the top of the F poles.

Step 9: Connect the H rods with the I rod

Insert the remaining H rods over the existing H rods. Take rod I and insert one end into one of the ends of an H rod. Carefully bend the rod and attach it to the end of the remaining H rod.

Step 10: Begin to attach the cab cover

Pull the cab cover over the rod assembly and slide the rods into the inside pocket of the cover.

Step 11: Tighten all set-screws

Visually square up the snow cab assembly. Use the wrench to tighten all set-screws on the frame.

Step 12: Finish attaching the cab cover

Take the top of the cover and pull down and back towards the D-C-D assembly. Loop the elastic straps around the bottom corners of bar A to secure the cover to the frame.

Step 13: Loosely assemble the clamps

Depending on your unit, the clamp L may be horizontal or vertical. Clamp K will always be horizontal. Loosely assemble clamps M, L, and K with the provided nuts, bolts and washers, but do not tighten them at this time. You will need to slip the clamps onto the frame at a later step.

Step 14: Determine the best location for your cab

Using an assistant, have them hold the cab frame and cover over your snow blower to find the best location to secure the snow cab to your unit. Hold the cross bar J to determine the best placement for the frame.

Step 15: Mount the clamps

Mount the pre-assembled clamps, M, L, and K to the upper handlebars on the snow thrower using the provided nuts, bolts, and washers.

Step 16: Attach the crossbar to the clamps

Center the J crossbar against the two clamps. Secure it with the end clamps using nuts, bolts, and washers. Make sure the J bar uprights are level. Depending on your unit, the clamps may need to be mounted to the horizontal handlebar. Tighten the L and K set-screws.

Step 17: Insert the cab assembly

Insert the front ends of the cab assembly into the ends of the crossbar. Tightly secure the upper cab to the J bar upright with two-set screws and a wrench. With the assistant holding the cab horizontally to the ground, tighten all bolts and set-screws.

Step 18: Fasten the cover to the cab and attach the pouch

Visually square up the cab assembly. Use the wrench to tighten all set-screws. Fabric from your snow blower cab should not touch the engine or exhaust. Attach the pouch to the inside of the snow blower cab.

Step 19: Open zippers to allow the headlight to shine through (if applicable)

The snow blower cab is designed to accommodate units equipped with a headlight. Zippers on the front of the cab can be opened and the flaps pulled back and secured with hook and loop straps to allow the light to shine through.

Step 20: Final adjustments

At this time, adjustments may be necessary for free movement of operational controls.
