Routine maintenance is a must in order to ensure the performance and longevity of your outdoor power equipment. Complete these simple tasks to keep your chipper/shredder operating at a peak level.

Chipper/Shredder Maintenance Tips

To keep your machine in good operating condition, follow the maintenance chart above. It's also important to purchase original manufacturer chipper/shredder parts when replacement is necessary. The maintenance tips below will help you maintain your chipper/shredder properly.

Check bolts and screws for proper tightness at frequent intervals to keep the machine in safe working condition. Replace if necessary.
Stop the engine and make certain the impeller and all moving parts have stopped moving before cleaning, repairing or inspecting. Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent the chipper/shredder from starting unintentionally.
Maintain or replace safety and instruction labels as necessary.
If the flail screen becomes clogged, remove and clean it. Cleaning with a forceful spray is not recommended as it could contaminate the fuel system.
Use a brush or dry cloth to clean the chute and around the muffler.
Empty any debris before trying to start your chipper/shredder.
Turn engine off if it jams or clogs. Disconnect the spark plug and carefully inspect the machine, removing any material that may be in the way.
When done using your chipper/shredder, make sure no debris is left inside, allow the engine to cool, and then wipe down the exterior.
Change the engine oil after the first 8 hours of operation.
Keep the control linkage clean and debris free to prevent control switch malfunctions.
Use light machine oil when lubricating.
